• The UvA is ranked among the top 10 best universities in Europe in the US News rankings of Best Global Universities, and ranks 40th worldwide.
• In their subject rankings, the UvA is in 15th place for Psychology/Psychiatry and 21st place for Arts and Humanities.

• The UvA is ranked 61st in the 2020-2021 QS Rankings. The UvA is one of two Dutch universities in the top 100. 
• The QS World University Rankings are compiled based on six criteria: academic reputation (40%), employer reputation (10%), citations per faculty (20%), student to faculty ration (20%), international faculty (5%) and international students (5%).

QS World Rankings by Subject

• In the 2020 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject  the UvA was listed as number one in the world for Communication Science and Media Studies.
• Dentistry (a joint UvA-VU programme) is ranked second globally.
• There are also top 20 positions for Sociology, Linguistics, Development Studies, Geography, Anthropology, and Library & Information Management.  A total of 28 subject areas at theUvA are ranked within the top 100. You can find a full overview here.

• The University of Amsterdam is ranked 66th in the 2020-2021 THE World University Ranking. 
• In the 2019 THE top 100 sub-rankings for subject areas, the UvA ranked 21st for Social Sciences, 36th for Arts and Humanities, 55th for Clinical, Pre-Clinical and Health, 82nd for Business & Economics, 73rd for Computer Science, 31st for Law, 87th for Education and 20th for Psychology.

THE also publishes specific rankings for teaching. In the 2019 Europe Teaching Rankings, the UvA is in 20th place.

• As in previous years, the UvA is listed in the 101-150 group in the 2020 worldwide top-500 ARWU ranking.

• In the 2020 ARWU Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, published on 30 June 2020, the UvA is ranked in first place globally in the field of Communication.
• Other UvA disciplines with high rankings include Psychology (14), Sociology (19) and Political Science (19).

• The UvA is ranked 79^th overall in the 2019 Leiden Ranking.
• In the rankings by field, the UvA is ranked in the top 100 in two fields: Social Sciences and Humanities (8^th) and Biomedical and Health Sciences (50^th).
