University Quarter
This campus is the intellectual heart of the city. The Faculty of Humanities and the University Library are located here.
Roeterseiland Campus
Three faculties are housed at the Roeterseiland Campus: Economics and Business, Social and Behavioural Sciences, and Law. CREA, the student cultural organisation, is also located here.
Amsterdam Science Park
One of the largest science campuses in Europe, Amsterdam Science Park is a centre for research innovation and entrepreneurship. Major research institutions are located here alongside about 120 companies and spin-offs. Amsterdam Science Park is also home to the University Sports Centre and Amsterdam University College.
Amsterdam UMC
Amsterdam UMC joins together the university teaching hospitals of the UvA (AMC) and the VU University (VUmc). UvA medical students learn the profession by working alongside doctors, nurses and patients at the AMC location in Amsterdam South-east.
Campus development
The UvA is working to consolidate its teaching and research activities within four campuses. At one time, we had about 85 different buildings scattered across Amsterdam. Many buildings didn't meet modern-day standards for teaching and research, and there weren't enough common areas to facilitate collaboration between disciplines.
Clustering helps to blur traditional boundaries – boundaries between faculties, between the university and other organisations, and between the university and society as a whole. The campuses are also meant to be places where societal issues are discussed and innovative teaching and research take place.
By consolidating our activities in four campuses, we hope to foster greater collaboration between disciplines and provide areas where staff, students, alumni, collaboration partners and local residents can meet and interact.
