Campus guidelines

The current lockdown also affects education and research at universities. Education is digital again, with only a few exceptions. On-campus activities and classes are very limited and designed in such a way that we can keep 1.5 meters apart from one another.

Working and studying from home

Everyone must work from home or study at home, unless there really is no other option. Exceptions will be made for necessary activities that cannot be performed from home, such as practical research and the management of facilities.

Working and studying safely on campus

Are you visiting one of the campuses? Make sure you follow the guidelines. Keep a safe distance, wash your hands regularly and follow the indicated routes.

The UvA has also taken additional measures in regards to ventilation in order to offer students and employees a safe environment for work and study. Staff and students can find more information about ventilation in the A-Z list.

    I have symptoms

    • If you just have a cold or cough, please stay at home until you have been symptom-free for 24 hours.
    • If you also have a fever, shortness of breath and/or loss of sense of taste or smell, please get tested and stay at home until the result is known.
    • If you test positive, then please follow the advice of the Municipal Health Service (GGD) and report sick.
    • If the test is negative, then you will not need to self-isolate, but please only make necessary journeys.

    I do not have any symptoms and am a student

    • Please note that only scheduled face-to-face teaching or teaching-related activities that can only be held on campus will be taking place.
    • Please only come to the campus if it is genuinely necessary and you are symptom-free.
    • Please book a study space in the University Library through uba.uva.nl.
    • You can come to the University Library for a maximum of two days a week. You will not be able to book a study space when at the University Library.
    • Please minimise the extent to which you travel by public transport and avoid rush hours.
    • The UvA buildings are not public indoor space, so face masks are not mandatory but you are of course welcome to wear one.

     I do not have any symptoms and am a staff member

    • Please work from home unless this is genuinely impossible.
    • Discuss workplace availability with your supervisor or manager.
    • Please minimise the extent to which you travel by public transport and avoid rush hours.
    • When walking or moving through University of Amsterdam buildings, staff or students are asked to wear a face mask. If you are seated in an office or in a lecture room, you may remove your face mask.

    I do not have any symptoms but a household member does

    • If a household member has a cold, then you will not need to self-isolate, but please only make necessary journeys.
    • If a household member has a fever or shortness of breath, please stay at home for 10 days and get tested if you develop symptoms.
    • If you have been near someone with a coronavirus infection for longer than 15 minutes but at a minimum distance of 1½ metres, then you will not need to self-isolate.
    • If you were closer than this, please self-isolate, follow your course(s) online and study at home.

    I have been in a yellow/red zone

    • Please self-isolate for 10 days and get tested if you develop symptoms.
    • Travel advice for your destination can be found at Nederlandwereldwijd.nl.
