Welcome to the section for international students wishing to study at the UvA on an exchange programme.
Are you interested in doing an exchange abroad, because you always wanted to live in one of the world’s most iconic cities? Then look no further.
Every year, the UvA welcomes hundreds of exchange students from around the globe who enrol in one of its large variety of English-taught programmes, some of which are rated as among the world’s best. These span a wide range of disciplines, ranging from social sciences to law, humanities to science, medicine to business.
Located within the heart of Amsterdam, the UvA is an intellectual hub within the Netherlands. It consistently leads the local field in a number of international rankings and is globally respected for its multidisciplinary, pioneering research.
As an integral part of Amsterdam - a place renowned for its tolerant, open and multicultural character - the university shares its host city’s international outlook, which is evident from the widespread use of English, the UvA’s unofficial second language.
Moving to a new city and beginning a new study is an exciting experience. To help you with the transition, the UvA has various services and support facilities. In this section, you can find out how to arrange your visa or residence permit, your insurance, and a place to live.
The International Student Network (ISN) Amsterdam, a student run organisation, is dedicated to helping international students studying at the University of Amsterdam and Hogeschool van Amsterdam make the most of their stay in the Netherlands. For instance, each semester there is an introduction organised by the ISN for international students arriving at the UvA. The ISN website should provide you with enough information to start the process of coming to Amsterdam to study, as well as details of where to go for help.
The University of Amsterdam participates in the Erasmus+ programme and holds an Erasmus+ Charter for Higher Education.
