Quality assurance

The UvA has an extensive system of quality assurance that we use to continuously monitor the quality of the education we provide.

Accreditation and assessment

All the UvA's degree programmes are assessed by a panel of independent experts every six years. Based on the assessment of these experts, the Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders, the NVAO, issues a decision about the programmes' accreditation. These decisions by the NVAO are an important source of information about the quality of education.

Institutional audits

Apart from the external assessments the UvA is also the subject of an institutional audit by the NVAO once in every six years. Instead of assessing individual programmes, these audits assesses the internal quality assurance in place at the UvA. The latest audit took place at the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019, and this resulted in a positive assessment for the UvA. The UvA satisfies the criteria in all four areas of quality assurance: vision and policy, realisation and execution, evaluation and monitoring, and improvement and development.

Feedback

The UvA also has its own, internal instruments to measure quality of education and student satisfaction: UvA Q, which collects students' feedback through teaching evaluations, the information managment system UvAdata, and the National Student Survey.
