Ellen Rutten is professor of Literature, with a focus on Slavonic literature and culture. Her research focuses on literature, image and social media in and regarding Eastern Europe.

Niek Pas is an historian. His main area of expertise is French politics and culture during the 19th and 20th century. His is currently doing research on developments taking place in France under the leadership of president Emmanuel Macron and on the postcolonial history of Algeria.

Barbara Hogenboom is a professor of Latin American Studies. Her research focuses on the conflicting values and interests surrounding the use of natural resources in Latin America. She also focuses on local opposition to mining and oil and gas projects, national political debates and policies on 'natural resources' (including nationalism versus liberalization) and international influences, in particular those of Chinese and American actors.

Peyman Jafari is a historian and researches the social, political and economic history of Iran in the 20th and 21st centuries. His research and publications also focus on three other themes: the history of international politics and the position of the Middle East in it; the history of revolutions and social movements; and the political and social history of oil.
