Exchange students from our partner universities do not have to pay a tuition fee to the University of Amsterdam. They pay their regular fees to their home university.
Students from all other universities (free movers) pay a tuition fee of €6,000 per semester. The tuition fee covers tuition, orientation and transcript processing. You will need approximately another €400 per semester for study materials.
Free movers will receive an invoice of the University of Amsterdam accompanied by instructions on how to pay their tuition fee. The tuition fee should be paid before the start of classes in the relevant semester. Please note that students cannot be accepted into the programme if their payment has not been received by then.
The International Office of the Amsterdam Law School (ALS) confirms the receipt of nominations and applications within two weeks. Accepted exchange students receive regular information letters by email. Students who do not receive confirmation need to contact the ALS International Office.
After the enrolment at the faculty, the ALS International Office forwards the details of all exchange students to the central UvA administration at Student Services. From them exchange students receive the UvA student number and e-mail with the UvA-net ID to finalize enrolment at the UvA and, if applicable, start the visa procedure. Exchange students also receive the digital UvA Start Magazine and Start Newsletters.
The University of Amsterdam collaborates with several housing corporations which have student flats for international students in various parts of Amsterdam. There are a limited number of rooms, so apply early! Exchange students receive information on the registration for accommodation from the International Office.
