The two-year track Molecular Sciences in the Chemistry Master's programme, a joint degree programme with the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, covers areas in chemistry that traditionally are associated with organic and inorganic chemistry, catalysis, physical chemistry and theoretical chemistry.
This year, you won't be able to attend any busy on-campus events with lots of people. But our online Open House is the perfect way to get to know UvA study programmes and university life from the comfort of your own home. Every study programme has an Online Open Day page with videos, FAQs and live events. On the main Online Open Day website you can discover all our programmes, explore the city and campus, and get inspired during our theme weeks.
Due to the Corona pandemic, in exceptional cases, the UvA will allow you to start your Master's programme before having fully completed your Bachelor's degree. Check the Application and Admission page for more information.
The Master's programme Chemistry offers specialisations in three tracks. Molecular Sciences is one of them. The other two tracks are:
Scientific research and education in the field of molecular chemistry are of utmost importance to society and industry. This broad discipline aspires to understand chemical and physical properties at the molecular level with the aim of synthesizing novel compounds with dedicated well-controlled and understood properties often in relation to sustainability, energy and material science. This track covers areas in chemistry that traditionally are associated with organic and inorganic chemistry, catalysis, physical chemistry and theoretical chemistry.
Encompasses all fundamental areas including organic and inorganic chemistry, catalysis, physical chemistry, and theoretical chemistry.
Custom-design the curriculum and select from numerous fundamental and specialised courses offered by internationally recognised experts.
Deep-dive into fundamental topics, that allows to rationally design compound with specific properties, understand reaction mechanisms, and observe and understand interaction of light with matter.
In a specific area like Molecular Design, Synthesis, Catalysis, Spectroscopy or Theory and Modelling.
Graduates of the Master's programme in Chemistry have had an excellent research training that allows them to pursue their PhD at chemistry institutes around the world. But they can also pursue a career in a different work field.
It is, if you:
Molecular Sciences is a track in the Master's programme Chemistry, a joint degree programme of the University of Amsterdam and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Courses are taught at locations of both universities. UvA and VU jointly issue a degree certificate to graduates. As a Chemistry student in Amsterdam you benefit from expertise, networks and research projects at both universities and affiliated research institutes.
