As a participatory body, the FSR has number of rights:
- Right of consultation: This means that the FSR must be consulted on certain decisions. The FSR responds by issuing an opinion. While this opinion is not binding, it must be factored into the decision-making process.
- Right of approval: This means that the FSR’s approval is required for policy to become legal and is therefore binding. The FSR has the right to approve Teaching and Examination Regulations which are reformulated each year in May.
Each FSR treats issues specifically related to the study programmes offered by the faculty in question.
