Are you interested in unravelling this by using machine learning, sequence analysis, computational models and/or systematic experiments? Then the joint degree Bioinformatics and Systems Biology Master at the University of Amsterdam and VU Amsterdam is the programme for you.
This year, you won't be able to attend any busy on-campus events with lots of people. But our Online Open Day is the perfect way to get to know UvA study programmes and university life from the comfort of your own home. Every study programme has an Online Open Day page with videos, FAQs and live events. On the main Online Open Day website you can discover all our programmes, explore the city and campus, and get inspired during our theme weeks.
Systems biology has been recognised as a powerful approach to solve biological questions at various levels and to come to quantitative descriptions of biological behaviour, structure and evolution. Students and lecturers will tell you what to expect from this programme.
Due to the Corona pandemic, in exceptional cases the UvA and VU Amsterdam will allow you to start your Master's programme before having fully completed your Bachelor's degree or pre-Master's. Please check the VU Amsterdam website for the rules and conditions that apply.
The Bioinformatics and Systems Biology programme teaches you to combine molecular and cell biology, computer science and mathematical modelling to integrate vast amounts of biological data into a fundamental understanding of life at the molecular level. During the programme, you will develop skills in scientific research and a high level of abstraction and quantitative thinking. You will learn to apply and combine rapid developments in different research fields and obtain an interdisciplinary mind-set with many transferrable skills.
How to get to know this Master's programme better than via its students? Read the experiences from students and what they say about Bioinformatics and Systems Biology.
The programme's flexibility and the accessibility of the staff for questions are some of the things that I really like here.Ina Natasari, student Bioinformatics and Systems Biology
If you successfully complete the Bioinformatics and Systems Biology programme, you will be in high demand. It is likely you will already find a job before you graduate. And in that job, you will extensively use the skills you acquired during this programme.
