Many organisations in society have a genuine need for knowledge about entertainment media and technology and feel increasingly compelled to tailor their products and want up-to-date scientific knowledge about media preferences. The Entertainment Communication track, with its roots in media psychology, trains you to meet this growing need for knowledge and advice.

Within the Master's Communication Science you specialize in one of the following four tracks:

Study programme

 The Entertainment Communication track focuses on the experience and impact of entertainment media and technology among a range of different groups and individuals, within different social contexts. In addition, we pay attention to media content and design and specifically link these to audience’s needs and preferences. You'll study what makes particular entertainment media and technology (e.g., computer games, advertising, social media) effective in reaching the desired outcome.

Careers

After graduation, you will be a media entertainment professional who is able to provide integral solutions to communication problems, within positions in advertising agencies, broadcasting companies, the creative industry, social institutions, and academia. Our alumni are international experts working in organisations as diverse as KLM, MTV, Viacom, Diversion and Heineken, or have started their own companies focusing on media development and user testing.

  • want to bring a timely and critical contribution to the societal debates about the risks and opportunities of entertainment media in the digital society? 
  • want to know how to strategically use media and how to reach a specific target audience?
  • have a Bachelor’s degree equivalent to a Dutch university bachelor degree in the field of communication science or a related discipline, with sufficient background in quantitative methods and statistics?
