In the track Geo-ecological Dynamics you will deepen your understanding of the different processes that play an important role in the functioning of geo-ecological systems that are strongly affected by global change. At scales varying from the molecule to the globe, you will study the dynamics of landscapes and geo-ecosystems of terrestrial environments and adjacent aquatic systems based on fieldwork, in the laboratory, with computational methods, or a combination of these.
This year, you won’t be able to attend any busy on-campus events with lots of people. But our online Open House is the perfect way to get to know UvA study programmes and university life from the comfort of your own home.
Every study programme has an Open House page with videos, FAQs and live events. On the main Open House website you can discover all our programmes, explore the city and campus, and get inspired during our theme weeks.
Due to the Corona pandemic, in exceptional cases, the UvA will allow you to start your Master’s programme before having fully completed your Bachelor’s degree. Check the Application and Admission page for more information.
The Master's programme Earth Sciences offers specialisations in 3 tracks. Geo-ecological Dynamics is one of them. The other 2 tracks are:
Complex geo-ecosystems comprised of landscape, soil, water and biological systems are severely affected by global change and human interaction. Detailed knowledge of geo-ecosystem processes is crucial for understanding our past, current and future environments. This means incorporating spatial and process studies of the dynamics and properties of landscapes, land use (change), land degradation and desertification, pollution, biogeochemical cycles and eutrophication (e.g. carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus), and climate.
In this Master’s track you will learn to apply state-of-the-art methods (including advanced fieldwork, lab methods and geo-computation) to answer the prominent environmental questions we are faced with.
Graduates of this track are well equipped to develop a successful career as an applied earth scientist. As a trained professional you will have excellent international career opportunities within or outside the sphere of Earth Sciences.
