Would you like to look beyond the letter of the law – discuss the justice and politics of private law rules? Do you want to challenge yourself to become the best private lawyer you can be? Learn to solve private law issues across European jurisdictions? Come and study European Private Law at the University of Amsterdam.
This year, you won’t be able to attend any busy on-campus events with lots of people. But our online Open House is the perfect way to get to know UvA study programmes and university life from the comfort of your own home.
Every study programme has an Open House page with videos, FAQs and live events. On the main Open House website you can discover all our programmes, explore the city and campus, and get inspired during our theme weeks.
Today, many important private law questions no longer stop at national and disciplinary borders. Lawyers – working in legal practice – national and EU institutions, international corporations, NGOs and academia are increasingly confronted with rules and doctrines of European and international origin.
This Master’s programme provides you with the knowledge and skills for working in an international legal environment. Interactive learning is essential in the intensive module European Private Law in Practice. This course is part of the experiential learning programme of the Amsterdam Law Practice.
Do you want insights and knowledge about private law issues in a rapidly changing world? This LLM programme provides you with a thorough understanding of the European and international aspects of private law, and of the economic, social and political forces driving its Europeanisation and globalisation.
Students holding a Dutch university Bachelor’s degree in Law and PPLE can be directly admitted to the programme. International students with a comparable academic degree are also admissible. Applications are assessed by the Admissions Board. If you hold a different Bachelor’s degree, please consult our list of admission requirements in the Teaching and Examinations Regulations.
Thanks to its ‘in context’ approach, the LLM European Private Law forms flexible, critical, problem-driven and curious lawyers. They can easily adapt to different kinds of practices and functions in the private and public sector. Students who have finished a Bachelor’s programme at the UvA before joining our Master’s programme, qualify for the legal professions in the Netherlands (‘civiel effect’). Students who have a Bachelor’s diploma from another Dutch university should read more about the conditions (in Dutch).
The Master’s in European Private Law offers the chance to acquire the knowledge that makes you a truly European lawyer.Johannes, graduate 2016-2017 Meet our students and lecturers
